Hawk, re: "And Iran is not some two-bit country. They have a population that rivals Nazi Germany during WWII, dominating the regimes in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq."
Don't give me numbers of people. Numbers of soldiers meant something when a man with a rifle was a dangerous invasion weapon. That was in the 1930s. Don't you think things have changed a little since then?
Iran can't build it's own computer technology, much less satellites, massive numbers of nukes, targeting systems, sophisticated jet fighters and defense mechanisms. Anyone can claim "Both Hitler and Stalin were once "small town thugs" and then make a logical jump and claim that any small town thug can rise to become a Hitler or a Stalin. The fact is, however, that if Hitler and Stalin had been born to small, technologically feeble countries neither of them would have been a significant military threat to anyone.
"But my god man... They have oil!! Wealth!! They have the potential to hold the global economy by the economic gonads."
If that were the big problem don't you think we'd be doing something about that? Do you really think we couldn't all have solar hot water panels on our houses? Do you really think we "need" to have an endless line of 3,000 pound, gas guzzling autos lined up for million of miles on our roadways, almost all of them carrying one pampered occupant? Don't give me the rationale that we need to go to war to avoid making a few changes. Ed |
