The Joke's on the Libs

I guess I’m the only one who sees the humor in the Jill Carroll denouement.

Storyline: Reporter goes to Iraq, files some stories, gets captured by evil terrorists who have a history of killing innocent people. None of that is funny.

While in captivity, said reporter, whose name is Jill Carroll, is forced to make a pro-terrorists propaganda video in which the terrorists make her say things that sounds like they were cribbed from Michael Moore’s blog. Again, not funny.

When Carroll is released, again not entirely sure that she’s free to speak openly, she says some new anti-American, anti-military and anti-Bush things in a video interview that, again, sound like they came straight from Daily Kos, Atrios, or any number of leftwing blogs. And again, not funny. Once on free soil and sure of her safety, Carroll renounces all that the terrorists made her say. Again, not funny.

But here’s the funny part. It should have been obvious to everyone, left and right, that whatever Carroll said under duress, with a terrorist pointing a gun at her head while several other terrorists undoubtedly lurked in the shadows, had no value. The terrorists were forcing an unarmed, innocent woman to make a film for them and she did it in order to survive (no, that’s not the funny part). The funny part is that the lefty bloggers actually took her at her word! Because—here’s the really funny part—the terrorists couldn’t make her say anything worse than the drivel the lefties post and publish every single day! Jill Carroll said things under penalty of death that free lefties in the comfort of the US of A say every day. They probably fed the terrorists Carroll’s lines (we know that bin Laden has watched Moore’s crockumentary), which is why they found those lines validating when they came from Carroll, who was basically being a meat puppet for terrorists so that she might have a chance to survive her ordeal. She would have said the moon is made of cheese if the terrorists had told her to. Would the lefties have found that so meaningful too?

The lefties latched on to the words of a woman under extreme duress as though those words validated their hatred of Bush, of the military (yes, most of you lefties hate the military and aren’t all that keen on America either, when you think you’re only talking among yourselves). How pathetic is that?

It’s very pathetic. And I think it’s pretty funny. The joke is certainly on any lib who takes a film made by a hostage under threat of grisly death as validating said lefty’s unhinged biases.
