"We are gratified that the US Patent Office has issued the first broad siRNA target patent to Sirna," said Bharat Chowrira, Ph.D., Vice President, Legal Affairs and Chief Patent Counsel.

Both Alnylam and Sirna have claimed to have IP locks on the technology for at least two years. Now Sirna is claiming that a patent just awarded is the first one. I also heard that the fundamental IP was held by a university (Wisconsin?) and that they were licensing it on a non-exclusive basis to all-comers. I wish I knew the truth.
