Tegan tells her rapists: Go to hell

TEGAN WAGNER was a frightened, innocent 14-year-old girl when she fell prey to the notorious Pakistani gang-rapist brothers. That was four years ago.

The shy child in the police videos has grown into a strong, brave and defiant young woman, and yesterday she declared "I won" when her attackers were sentenced. It was the final chapter of a drawn-out battle for justice for at least six girls.

............

The brothers, particularly MSK, had pulled out all stops to avoid justice. They said they were Muslim and so would be denied a fair trial. They claimed media publicity was prejudicial. And they repeatedly sacked their barristers.

MSK pretended to be mentally ill, and jumped the dock and threw broken glass at the victims' families. He later admitted to all the rapes at his sentencing hearing,
but invented more excuses: he blamed his victims for being "promiscuous" and his "strict cultural background", even that "Satanic voices" made him do it.

It was all dismissed by Justice Hidden. "The whole of the offender's behaviour was consciously designed to prevent the proceedings being brought to finality. He presents as a man who is prepared to manipulate the system in any way he can to avoid facing the consequences of his crimes," the judge said. The brothers' father was not in court. A medical practitioner, he is under investigation by the NSW Medical Board, which has banned him from prescribing any drugs of addiction. He blames the media for his sons being jailed. The Director of Public Prosecutions is considering perjury charges against him and other family members for lying at the trials.
