Is This the Worst Congress in U.S. History? Email Print

It is a given that Bush very likely will go down in U.S. history as the worst president the nation ever had. His Iraq War debacle with the likes of Wolfowitz and Perle beating the war drums, along with Cheney and war profiteering allies Halliburton, Bush and his team of destroyers, have demonstrated worthiness for the dubious honor of America's worst ever administration.

But it took a robot Congress to follow the pied piper of destruction, George W. Bush. While we are at it, let's not forget the Republican right wing fanatics who fantasize they've got God on their side. Where in their allegedly holy Bible they found validation for killing individuals or warring against nations that have not threatened us remains a mystery.

To hear them singing their hymns in church, praying for God to guide them in this nightmare killing spree that they have been backing is the height of hypocrisy. Those prayers don't reach any higher than their warped heads.

To generate a civil war in Iraq and dare to claim you have brought democracy and freedom, which might spread across the entire Middle East, is one for the shrinks.

What has this worst Congress in U.S. history accomplished besides overseeing the killing of 100,000 Iraqis? This figure is in accordance with a Johns Hopkins University study along with 15,000 U.S. service personnel sustaining injuries with 2,376 deaths. This happened on their watch. Let us never let them forget it.

No amount of flag waving can remove the bloody stain resulting from the destruction and havoc they have generated for this generation, not to mention future ones as well.

The implication of a better than $8 trillion debt hasn't hit home yet, but it will. Bush and His GOP Congress cut taxes for the wealthy as the multi billion-dollar Iraq war delighted the warmonger mentality while filling the coffers of the giant-sized war machine.

A Pew Poll found that 55 percent of the American public cites the deficit as a top priority. That 55 percent must ask if they voted for Bush's second term. If they did they asked for a continuing war and skyrocketing debt.

Now the price must be paid for what they voted for. The British have a saying that applies: We get the government we deserve. There can be no serious argument that Bush voters are getting what they deserve. Oh! That's scary! You bet it is.

Pork barrel projects in this ballooning budget total about 14,000. Oh! But how is a congressman to hold the noble office if he doesn't bribe his constituents, throwing a little pork barrel dollars or the equivalent thereof their way?

A good example of slippery spending as the U.S. slides near the edge of bankruptcy was manifested by the public expenditure of $250,000 for a teapot museum in Sparta, North Carolina. Alaska received $320 million in pork last year.

Every U.S. citizen now owes $28,000 as his or her share of the national debt. What can we do to end this chaos for which this president and Congress are jointly responsible?

The following urgent priorities must be addressed:

1. A leading priority should be to stop spending enormous amounts on public buildings in Iraq. This effort reveals the real agenda of this administration no matter what is stated publicly, namely the intention to remain in Iraq. A sound strategy needs to be devised to get out of Iraq.

2. Another major priority involves Medicare and Medicaid. Considerably greater funding will be needed to sustain these programs when baby boomers retire. A means test must be devised so that Social Security and Medicare do not sink under the cumulative weight of enormous rising costs.

3. The borders must be protected. If an endless sea of individuals rush illegally across U.S. borders and obtain welfare, Medicaid, Social Security and Medicare, the nation will be plunged into bankruptcy.

4. Push for war criminal trials for the culprits with the high-sounding titles who got us into the Iraq quagmire. These individuals should have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

5. Eliminate all of Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy immediately.

Yes, it is the worst Congress in history:
