I think there is much truth in that assessment. Maybe the screaming on the right has more to do with whats omitted, not whats included. Hey i am a native new yorker and proud of that no matter where i go, just like a Texan is proud of their heritage. But in many ways i am a cultural conservative, albeit very tolerant of what other adults choose to do. I kind of am an Andrew Sullivan fan in that regard. He is religous, conservative, homosexual and a believer in monogamy for all.
