Don't give me numbers of people. Numbers of soldiers meant something when a man with a rifle was a dangerous invasion weapon. That was in the 1930s. Don't you think things have changed a little since then?
Iraqi, Saudi, and Kuwaiti infantry aren't much better.
And my statement was describing the potential for Iranian aggression in the ABSENCE of US forces (because people like you don't think it's worth it).
Also, I think car bombs and suicide vests have altered the analysis of the human foot soldier, when properly motivated.
It doesn't take divisions of infantry to wage war now... It's called insurgency and terrorism. They don't wear uniforms anymore... They just filter into whatever country they can find support in, and conduct operations.
Maybe you should have paid some attention to what happened at Najaf. Many of those militiamen were Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
They can readily do the same thing throughout the region, given the motivation and opportunity.
The fact is, however, that if Hitler and Stalin had been born to small, technologically feeble countries neither of them would have been a significant military threat to anyone.
Actually, Stalin was born to a technologically feeble country. But he connived, deceived, and purchased the technology he needed (New Economic Program).
Iran, with it's oil wealth, is attempting to do the same thing. And who knows, Putin may just sell it to him, or they may obtain it from other nations who don't have economic sanctions on Iran.
If that were the big problem don't you think we'd be doing something about that?
Geezus, you are so incredibly MYOPIC!! We don't live in isolation anymore Ed.. We're part of an interconnected global economy. And while we may be able to weather an oil embargo better than most nations, the damage it would do to other nations could create a chain of instability and hyper-inflation that might actually benefit the Islamo-Fascists!!
Go back to your cave and hibernate Ed... The rest of us sensible folks with at least a thimble full of common sense will do our best to make sure no one wakes you up..
