Are we becoming a nation of hypochondriacs?

I've been healthy all my life and have always paid cash as I go. Even when my wife had her appendix removed we still came out ahead at the end of the year when we figured what we payed the hospital compared to what insurance (sorry, there's that word again <g>) would have cost.

I'll be hitting the 5-oh my next birthday, so I may consider getting some type of coverage sometime in the next 4-5 years. Not crazy about the idea of subsidizing a bunch of hypochondriacs or people who are just generally unhealthy.
