I actually did have an XP PC that crashed, if not daily, then at least weekly. The only culprit I could find (after MANY hours of hair pulling) was a Microsoft brand wireless mouse and keyboard which I had installed using the Microsoft drivers that were included with it. When I uninstalled those and swapped out a different mouse and keyboard the crashes stopped, except for malware and popup slowdowns. I installed AdAware, then another popup sweeper, and ran them daily for awhile. XP was workable, but only with a lot of time spent on maintenance of these issues. It seemed like it was always something.
Then I switched to Macs. I don't spend my time on those frustrating tasks anymore. The dual boot capability for me just means that in the future I won't need to keep the spare Dell PC around to run the odd program here and there that won't run on the Mac. I actually think that in the long run, DELL will be hurt by this development, maybe a lot on the home sales side. If you can buy a Mac that will run both or a DELL that will only run Windows, the only thing the DELL has to recommend it is price. For many of us, the price isn't worth the frustration. Chevys are cheaper than Toyotas, but fewer and fewer people choose them every year. |
