The democratic world set the stage for his rise.
Perhaps.. They certainly didn't help.
But the strong Prussian militaristic streak and German nationalism played an equally, if not stronger, role in bringing Hitler to power and fueling his ambitions.
Because those ambitions were the same ones the Prussian militarists and empire builders had aimed to achieve in WWI.
You still have not pointed out which major Communist country was overthrown by our military. A nuclear shield was all we ever needed during the Cold War. Its our commerce that won.
How many times do I have to say this. I understand that EVENTUALLY Islamo-Fascism, like Communism, will fail when the societies who look to it for nationalistic or religious inspiration realize that it cannot provide them what they desire.
But WHAT I'M SAYING IS.. why do we, and they, have to suffer through this? It's not necessary, if only we're prepared to confront and advance an alternative that can equally inspirational and appealing, namely individual rights and accountable government.
If we spent half the effort that totalitarian regimes do, in advancing and supporting democratic movements in these developing countries, we'd possibly be able to avoid the pain of failed totalitarian and charismatic megalo-maniacal governments inflicting suffering upon the world.
And Billions, if not Trillions, of dollars would be saved, as well as oceans of blood.
Is that such a unreasonable position to take?
I want to see a more viable map for the Palestinians than the ones I keep seeing for the West Bank.
The Palestinians, and their corrupt leadership, are primarily responsible for their lot. The rest of the responsibility lies with the various Arab states who have manipulated them as pawns in their own game of regional domination and internal political support.
It is VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER that, until 1967, the Palestinians were subjects of the Jordanian Kingdom. When Hussein abandoned them in 1989, in order to prepare the way for Jordan's eventual peace treaty with Israel, the Palestinians had the opportunity to choose peaceful co-existence with Israel and possibly their own state.
But let's not forget that it was Jordan that attacked Israel in 1967, and Israel has the right to draw the borders in a manner that maintains its ability to defend itself.
The going joke was that the Palestinians never lost an opportunity to lose an opportunity. And the recent election of Hamas as their government perpetuates this reality.
But perhaps, more appropriately, we should remember Golda Meir's telling quote:
"Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us."
"When peace comes we will perhaps in time be able to forgive the Arabs for killing our sons, but it will be harder for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons."

Boy.. would it ever be wonderful to have another Golda Meir leading Israel.
