Well, I haven't posted in a few years on this type of stuff, but here goes: I'm a born again, pro life individual who voted for GW both times. Why?...well, maybe some other time. However, I do read and I don't just read what someone wants me to read.
President Bush from my understanding is not exactly a hands-on type of guy. He puts great trust in those under him. Ahhh, that can be a problem, especially when those guys go by the names of Cheney, Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld.
In simple terms, before Bush we had a president who couldn't care less what happened to a child he couldn't see. Now, we have a president who couldn't care less about a people he doesn't see.
Bottomline: This presidency is disgraceful....but so was the one before it. Most people just want to be "right" and argue from that standpoint and so the "real facts" and consequences appear somewhat irrelevant to many. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Clinton was in simple terms, amoral, self focused and so on. This type of behavior helped, imo, lay the groundwork for a spineless Congress, along with a large group (majority?) of people, who are generally oblivious to the Iraqi invasion. Self absorption has a contagious theme to it. Bush's actions also betray his words and we've yet to see the consequences spelled out. We will, though.
Although I am pro-Israel, what Sharon and others have done cannot be considered acceptable behavior, yet many of my fellow born againers justify everything by Israel as being okay simply because they are God's Chosen. Well, all I can say is, look in your Bible. Remember what happened to the family of Saul because of his betrayal of the Gibbeonites? Yet, here we have Israel being the betrayers by building on the West Bank....and yet, we here in the West not only accept this, but many, especially some Born againers, actively support it. And if building in the "occupied territories" sounds wrong (which it is) we'll just change the wording to "disputed territories" to make it sound right. Sorry, God is not a respecter of persons and we'll all reap what we sow.
Last part of my rant: Years ago, I was part of Operation Rescue (some of you remember it). One time, there was a gay guy, who was pro-life, sitting or standing all by himself. Ironic, isn't it? We on the pro life side wouldn't or couldn't talk to him because, well.... The pro gays, left wingers on the other side also didn't talk to him....and there he was, all alone. Looking back, I wish I had the guts to have at least thanked him for his convictions.
Bottomline two: The black and white views from both the left and the right have hurt all of us. I am quite right winged in my views, yet I am alien to the majority of those that actually believe we have a godly president making godly decisions. I am considered by many of my peers to be anti-semite, an apostate or worse.
Otoh, the left wingers will never accept me either in the sense that I do believe abortion is murder in all cases, the gay lifestyle is wrong and will be judged (I also believe adulterers and fornicators will EQUALLY be judged).
So there you have it. Rodney King asked a question but the answer is NO. Unfortunately, our differences negate any strength we have in common ground and so both sides remain impotent. End of rant. |
