INTC Intel Turning Into a True Value - Barron'sonline (19.38 )

According to Barron's, Intel bulls are bracing for a brutal second round in the chip giant's war with rival Advanced Micro Devices. But after the 16% decline in Intel stock in the last 12 months, the value argument for Intel's shares may win back investors. The stock is near its 52-week low of $19.25 at a time when the Nasdaq is trading at its five-year high. A new suite of energy-efficient microprocessors will deliver Intel a "revolution" in chip design in the latter half of this year. That could help it get off the mat, say observers. "Intel's product roadmap is more compelling than it was a couple of quarters ago," says Jim McGregor, principal analyst with research firm In-Stat in Scottsdale, Ariz. "The ball is back in AMD's court to maintain its competitiveness." "AMD's two-year streak is drawing to a close," with Intel's new products, adds Ben Lynch, who follows both companies for Deutsche Bank in New York. He has a Sell rating on AMD and a Buy rating on Intel. Intel could be dead money for the next few months but could outperform the market the next five years if the products pan out, says Marc Klee with American Fund Advisors in Garden City, N.Y.
