I went to that thread you just posted..UGH... The hate that is spewed on some of these threads is sufficient to turn me into believing the complete opposite of what that thread stands for or the political party the thread represents. The fist and most important elements in changing my belief system would be.. and not necessarily in this order for that person to exhibit intelligence,dignity and respect for other opinion's. The willingness to explore alternative opinions and the legitimate attempt to remain unbiased which is a real biggie. I am definitely guilty of this trait. For example, I am willing to admit that I am wrong. I am willing to admit that the political party that I back has flaws. I am willing to admit that the candidate of my choice is a poor one. And that persons I believe in are not always RIGHT. However, in my exploring the sites here there are those who can never admit that the present administration has done anything irregular or wrong. This just turns me off to the point that their opinion no longer matters since it is founded on I WILL CONTINUE TO BELIEVE...no matter how much evidence there is to support to the counter their believing. When that happens the messenger is discredited... For example, John posted that article from the New York Times. I am sure that there are those on this board who would not read that article as the TIMES is considered a left wing publication. It's hard to find TRUTH.. Today it is especially hard. There is too much animosity built up in this country. The deviousness has worsened along with the war in Iraq.. I come to S.I. and read a lot of different sites where I read opinions,seek out the sources and always find that whatever one wants to believe there is some publication to support it. There are those who come to this site and choose to publish on their own site things that are posted here and then mock the poster as being of one political orientation and this thread being a joke. I refute that. This thread is at least where there is some recognition of differing points of view,biases and opinions but no one denigrates others for their stands. So I will rant on and stay. It would be interesting to have a discussion as to how I came to believe the way that I do... wouldn't it ?
