Percentage-wise, yes. But houses cost a lot less here. $250k will buy a big house on a lot of land. In 2005 on my house, I paid the county about $260, the school district got $740 and the city got $360. We also have a high sales tax, somewhere between 6% and 8.25% depending on assessments for hospitals, bridges, etc.
