One can't blame them for being misled in the same way one can't blame a sheep for being misled by a Judas goat in the abattoir.
I have informed you that Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd. If you choose to reject Him and follow another shepherd, then yes, you yourself are to blame for your own freely-chosen blindness.
On the other hand, what gives you the right to say that your interpretation is the right one? By the same token, you could also have been misled.
Well this is what happens when you try to reason with an atheist. Atheists have no objective standard of truth, because they don't claim to believe in anything but whatever suits their whims at the moment. I told you that you need an objective standard of truth to have rational conversations about these matters. You can try to prove to an atheist that the sun is shining and it is daylight, but if he squeezes his eyes shut and turns his back he can convince himself that it is nighttime, just so he won't have to agree with you.
But, from what you say, most/all of those who allege they have searched the scriptures also have no idea.
Many search the Scriptures to justify their own perverted and preconceived ideas. Others, take for instance televangelist Jack Van Impe, boast of their having memorized 15,000 Bible verses. He doesn't memorize the Bible to learn truth, he memorizes the Bible to impress people so he can attain riches and fame.
Furthermore, many are intellectually aware of certain truths that are contained in the Scriptures, yet choose not to live by them.
One must live the Holy Scriptures, not just read them and talk about them.
So I admit that searching the Scriptures is only the first step. But how can you be taught how to live the Scriptures unless you have read them and familiarized yourself with them first?
