And sometimes it's just part of a domestic food fight. I don't recall the exact chronology, but once the WMD weren't found (only traces of intentions), there was probably a desperation to pull something out of the proverbial hat that would hold up.

Would have been helpful at home and abroad if it had convinced anyone. But the court of public opinion is pretty harsh in Peoria and Pretoria.

Having worked in a small part of the government spin machine I wonder sometimes if the whole process will ever be as thoroughly discredited as it deserves.
