any evidence for that assertion

i should have been more specific in delineating between hispanic and mexican ....i was referring to the block of voters that is mexican (not hispanic in general, to be sure, cuban and puerto rican legals especially from what i read and watch tend to want to hold the line on illegal immigration)

btw...

the pew hispanic center certainly does believe there is a discreet group of people which they refer to as 'hispanic'

according the pew hispanic center we have approximately 40M *hispanics* in the u.s. population right now....appoximately half are native born and the other half foreign born...of that group in total of 'hispanics' or latino, if you prefer, 63 % names the country of origin to be mexico

of the half that is foreign born, by far the biggest wave of illegal immigration has come across the mexican border (at least 11 million if the census is to be believed)
