Well, if the President didn't leak because he has the ability to declassify whatever he wants, why not declassify (by this, I mean give to the media) the entire report, not only parts of it? And why did Libby insist on being known as a "former White House staffer" rather than simply present the information as coming from the White House.
If a reader picks up the NYT and reads the article containing only part of the intelligence brief, then sees it is from a "former staffer", the reader might well think this person is leaking (there's that word again) the truth and it is a secret!
Then, days later, Mr. Bush gets all huffy about leakers....bad leakers. Bad. So that same reader thinks: "wow, that stuff I read in the times must really be important and true cause the President seems SO CONCERNED that it got out".
Gee, are we all being played for idiots. Can't leak? Well, it depends on what the meaning of "is" is, I guess. |
