Let's see, Paul... The version I had of ping was straight from the CD ROM for Win95 install from early '96.

The "new' one is whatever is on the MS support site currently. I noticed it last night, actually. 290 KBytes. pingupd.exe

MS says their new version interferes less in internet traffic when it is used. My over simplification. Here's what they say:

New Ping Tool for Windows 95 This new version of Ping.exe prevents other networked resources from hanging when you use Ping.exe to test IP communication to a network resource. (296456 bytes, published 07/16/97 )
