It doesn't help when you have presidential candidates (McCain) saying stuff (to union members) like "they're doing jobs no one else will...I'll offer you $50/hr to pick lettuce, none of you would take me up on it" Of course, he got roundly booed, and a number of the audience offered to take him up on his new $50/hr farmhand offer. What a fiasco, but it's representative of the attitudes of national politicos who have been mexi-whipped on the topic and are spineless.
