The blind Egyptian sheik was involved as was Ramzi Yousef's uncle, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who in turn was a planner of the 911 attack. (Note: Yousef and Mohammed also were involved in a plot to have been launched from the Philippines to hijack a dozen US airliners over the Pacific.) Yes, Saddam tried to have an ex-President assassinated. IMO, foreign govts plotting to assassinate either current or former Presidents is an act of war on our country. One more reason to take Saddam out. In addition to his sheltering numerous terrorists who had been involved in attacks on the US like the first WTC attack. In addition to his planning of future terror attacks on the US that Vladimir Putin told the world his intelligence service had warned us about. Now suppose that Bush had refrained from overthrowing Saddam and that following 911 an Iraqi government supported terror attack did hit the US. And we found out from Vladimir Putin that Russian intelligence had warned us about such plans in advance (That part we don't have to suppose - Putin said so publicly). You know as well as I do that Bush's critics would be accusing him of failing to protect the US by leaving Saddam in power.
