As you can see from Dainippon's Annual Report for 2005, in fact they highlighted their development of Research Frontiers SPD technology:

From Dainippon Ink & Chemicals latest (12/2005) Annual Report:

"Photochromic Glass Colorants

DIC is currently developing colorants for photochromic glass that allows users to electrically control the transmission of light through the glass with the flick of a switch. These colorants are created by encapsulating specialized colorant particles in resin and applying electricity, causing the colorant particles to realign and facilitating control over the passage of light. Fused with glass, these colorants make it possible to control the transparency and amount of light transmitted through the glass, making them highly suited to the production of photochromic glass. The colorants currently under development allow significant control over the transmission of light making it possible to block infrared light, and offer outstanding durability. DIC has licensed the basic technology for these colorants from Research Frontiers, Incorporated."
