Ted, old post, but still worth responding to: The most insane aspect is that Chinese parents are killing off girl babies because boys are preferred. Duh? How can there be a future population without girls/women? Same thing is happening in India, Korea, and other Asian nations. It's to the point where Korea has outlawed revealing the gender of an unborn child, IIRC. Its amazing the attitude the Chinese have towards women......their history re. this issue is disturbing. Have you ever seen the shoes women were required to wear to make their feet look dainty. Very scary! But this killing off of girl babies is quite amazing. And yet, most Chinese women in this country seem fairly assertive. As for India, the boy/girl imbalance is leading to a cultural revolution of sorts. Before, it was the girl's family who had to buy gifts (dowry) for her future in-laws. These days, it's the other way around now that girls are a "rare commodity." And with that change hopefully comes more respectful treatment of women. I am not so sure...........have you heard how guys get rid of their wives......by throwing acid in their faces?
