Among the very many things Bush has bequeathed himself is little to no credibility. The recent revelations in the authorization of leaks in the Plame business only reminds everyone that his history is suspect here. And if the Bush folk begin to try to ratchet up enough support for a bombing campaign in Iran, they are going to run head on into that reality.

They've simply squandered and lost their credibility.

And, of course, that would not be the end of it. If the rest of the world has a very low opinion of the Bush folk now, they will discover it can go much lower.

Finally, the best evidence that these plans are not routine is the reports that some of the military leadership are so opposed and so worried, they are considering resignation. That's well beyond the normal contingency planning sorts of debates.
