Shades, I sort of take this stuff as a fact of life. I'm more interested in the bleeding-edge technology than anything else.

Dunno. History is full of attacks that weren't forseen by intelligence agencies. The Soviets under a very paranoid Stalin, with spies everywhere, got blindsided by Hitler in '41. Israel and the Yom Kippur war in '73. Germany was totally deceived on D-Day.

Humint, Elint and high-priced intelligence agencies probably have a value, but they're no guarantee of anything. I think the public expects too much. Plus, they almost never hear of the successes - but the failures are never forgotten.

Germany had almost total control of France in WWII, and couldn't stop continuous sabotage. Why should we, in open and democratic societies, expect any better?
