Cuba doesn't have any oil. The Bush Administration is setting up Venezuela for the fall. They have lots of oil. Actually the oil rich triangle of Venezuela, Ecuador and Amazonian Brazil...is sighted for oil development by US companies right now. Some fields in Venezuela are being jointly developed with American oil companies, other than Citgo.

Rice and Rumsfeld have been rattling sabers in Chavez's ears the past few months. I thought we were pro democracy, even if it means fundamentalist Islamics are in charge. I guess there's no room for "socialists" in the western hemisphere, even if they give your poor people free heating oil and enjoy the popular support of 80% of their people.

Venezuela is a poor country. Going against the corporate big money folks and sharing the wealth with the people pisses some people off. But the people are getting health care, education and jobs, where there was little hope of that before Chavez. Ergo his current popularity.
