Speaking of "hiding" things in the desert.....Egypt is STILL finding long ago tombs hidden in the desert after 3-6,000 years of being "buried".....
Not sure I caught that particular program.. But I sure love watching that kind of stuff.
That's one of the benefits of trading for a living.. Lots of time to watch interesting programs while the market does it's thing.
AMAZING! It's rather like x-rays as viewed from the air...outlines of huge tombs are seen ...
Yeah.. that Ground Penetrating Radar is pretty fascinating... I know we used it while in Iraq, but it wasn't really my area of expertise so I didn't see many of the products produced from it (and probably wouldn't be able to talk about it anyway.. ;0)
I've really been interested in how they've been trying to use GPR to give a view of old river beds and topography of the Sahara. Reason being that there are a few folks who have a theory that the original Sphinx might be up to 15,000 years old, dating back to a time when the Sahara wasn't covered with sand, but was a Savannah plain with considerable rainfall and waterways:
>i>The Sahara is the driest place on earth right now, but SIR-A was able to penetrate the sand and reveal an ancient landscape below that, amazingly, had been carved by running water. "The Sahara once looked like the landscape of Europe," El-Baz reported, "with rivers, lakes, mountains and valleys." The banks of the old rivers beds, dubbed "radar rivers" by researchers, turned out to be excellent sites for archaeological excavation, yielding a bevy of Paleolithic tools and artifacts.
