More to the point, I think that the Administration knows full well that using nukes crosses a very serious line, one into barbarity. It would be an act so portentous that once done will change who and what we are forever. Whether the American people "stand for it" is irrelevant as it is not going to happen.

It isn't as if the American people are the only restraint on such an action. There are huge moral and practical reasons apart from considering the wishes of Americans that will prevent such a barbarity.

It's not as if the Administration is seriously thinking of such a step and deviously trying to get the American people to trust it to do so properly.

It's the other way around, folks like the self-admitted liar Hersh, et al, are pimping such a view for political purposes. And it is happening precisely because floating the balloon causes folks like you to think that those devious Bushies are surely up to.........something.

It's a shame, really, that the Administration has fallen so far that it cannot manage a simple image management issue like this one without getting the nuts all stoked up.
