We have been travelling through New England since late last week, today in NH. We stopped at a shop where I bought a few tools today, dealt with the owner. While making out the receipt for warranty purpose he learned we were from Canada and surprised the hell out of me by saying "this country is going down. I don't know where we will end up, but it is not good. We have these bozo's in office, I'm not sure if it is religious zealotry or what, but it will not end well, and now we are dragging you into it".
I was almost speechless, but managed to say "we love the states, we love the people, but this administration is nuts".
We shook hands.
A very sobering experience, one I had not expected to encounter, especially when I had steeled myself to keeping my mouth shut when I heard supporting comments for Bush.
The other side of the coin was yesterday when we heard a radio announcer in Maine going on about it's just one nuclear bomb needed in Iran, and if the wimps didn't like it they could paint it in psychedelic colours and call it a butterfly.
The former gentleman gave me hope, the latter may cheer a few on this thread. |
