There are some reputable first sources. They say maybe something unusual happened; OTOH, the airlines were already in trouble (aren't they always?) and it could be a fluctuation above the base upward trend of puts and shorts. And most of the activty I would expect in puts- -lots more money to be made for a smaller investment.

Now the NYSE, NASDAQ, and CBOE should also have data worth looking at to establish that something DID happen.

But where did the orders come from? Who knows at this point? THAT still has to be established.

Did somebody know? Probably. I'd be more surprised if somebody DIDN'T.
