Tom, the challenge of the few remaining Bush partisans left right now (can't find a single senior republican rallying around the WH declassification stragety) is to stem the chorus of discomfort from the likes of Linda Chavez, George Will, William F. Buckley, Pat Buchanan, and others. The President's choice to instantly declassify in the dark of night (poof!) certain parts of the NIE and then have a (hrrrmph) "former hill staffer" (what kind of LIE is that) provide the tidbits to Judith Miller, the scummiest reporter of them all. Even long-standing Bush apologists are squirming, especially over this claim of getting "the Truth" out. Tell me, Tom.....as you and a few others here still seem enthralled with this WH, can you tell me why the President did not:
A) Declassify the whole NIE and say to the world.."Wilson is wrong and here is the proof of why I acted as I did".
or
B) Declassify even just the parts he felt were most relevant, but have them published openly after declaring they were declassifed by GWB.
or
C) Work with the media (but why the MSM Satan New York Times?) and have Libby be identified as "Chief of Staff to the Vice-President" or " A WHITE HOUSE staffer".
As with so much of this White House, from Harriet Miers to Mike Brown to Rummy and Condi disagreeing on whether we have made "thousands of mistakes".....they just can't shoot straight.
You seem entranced by the political genius of George W. Bush. Without falling into your second-grade level invective, can you explain why he does this kind of thing? Maybe there is a brilliant plan nobody can see. Even the republican pundits.
