Intel would have to pay some one to buy their money losing flash division. That pay could be in the form of a 65nm 300mm fab though.

I'm not arguing Intc is superior, I'm just saying you can't compare the cash positions. The statement of cash flows should be interesting this year (profit's an opinion, but cash is a fact....).

Intc has enough flash market share that they're worth significant $, although it looks to me like they're lagging Spansion on the technology front. Intc has to retain the chipset business, controlling the IP on the socket/slot is how they control the industry. As for all the other diversification efforts, we know how they are working out.

I was very happy that AMD spun off Spansion, being in a single market focusses the organization. If I want diversification I'll buy SPSN and AMD.

Intc has other options to support a price war, they have a lot of fat to cut. I don't think a price war is winnable at this point, it's too late for Intc to drive AMD out of the cpu business. I agree with Hector, I think Intc is doing tactical "desparation dumping" rather than launching a strategic price war. They have to keep up the facade until NGA ramps. Sounds sorta like Jerry back in the K5 days.
