Just found the thread and this may be a naive question, but I don't know much about gasohol.

Rather, the economics of it.

Isn't it true that the import of methanol has high U.S. imposed tariffs on it because it's manufacture, here in the U.S., is considered a "new" infant industry and the Federal Government is protecting the industry?

So, if that is so, because methanol cannot be transported by pipeline without contamination and because the industry is primarily based in the West how will methanol become a viable economic alternative on the Eastern Seaboard?
