Fascinating stuff here about the Klan. I don't know if you knew Truman was a member:

Not surprising many of the southern political figures were members since the Klan was so huge and so powerful "Millions joined and at its peak in the 1920s the organization included about 15% of the nation's eligible population"

Amazingly strong movement. We're lucky it didn't take over.
