It seems that nature is much more resilient than some people are wont to believe. Smithsonian has an article about the explosion of wildlife and plantlife back into the blast zone of Mt. St. Helens. I can hardly conceive of a more devastating event; yet, nature comes readily back in force. Even skeptical ecologists were amazed.

Clearcutting, however, remains ecologically disasterous.
