The News As Seen Through A Mac User's Eyes.

via Tech Web
(Opinion) by Randy Whitted

> Microsoft announced this week that its beleaguered Windows 98 operating system
would not ship until nearly the middle of 1998, admitting that engineering
problems were slowing the project. Backward compatability with Windows 3.1
systems appears to be dragging the project down. Stocks plummeted at the news,
and Windows users braced for the impact of using a 3-year-old OS.

Many said they speculate that the software giant has spread itself too thin and
simply cannot support all its projects. Stockholders expressed displeasure at giving
away Internet Explorer, and users balked at plans that IE would be an integral part of
Win 98. Cutting out major competitor Netscape Communications is expected to
produce ill feelings among users, while angering antitrust officials.<
