Don, You just described the psychology of "tops" vs. "bottoms". Easy to spot, difficult to pinpoint when to get in or out. Remember that the market always does "what" it is supposed to, just not necessarily "when" it's supposed to. Who said this was supposed to be easy? Anyone who wants to be short MSFT (read "Nifty Fifty") would be well advised to use puts. If we get a real "blowoff" being short the stock could ruin you. Ask the shorts who were correct but early on Presstek. Dwight
