Darwin did two extremely important things. He devised a theory which explains living history, and he changed science in a way that showed how to test a theory where the experiments have pretty much already been performed.

This is why he is buried next to Issac Newton. Both had a theory, which is incomplete, even wrong if you look close enough, but both captured the essence of the truth and provided science with the framework to delve deeper.
