LOL! The 'View from the Left of Center' thread is still a great source of amusement. Almost every time I go there they're patting themselves on the back on their civility & "centrist" views. Funny how in the same breath they're looking down their noses & insulting almost everyone else on SI's political threads.
You know the more someone emphasises certain qualities they possess that they "feel" others lack, I have to wonder who it is they're trying to convince - me or themselves. Funny thing though. New posters don't go there & mention how refreshing it is to see this island of civility & "centrist" views compared to the squalor elsewhere on SI.
Meanwhile, more often than not, you can't make it through 10 posts with out it containing at least one post from the MSM, a left wing site &/or an SI member smearing Bush, his Admin, the military or some combination of all three. And it is gleefully & uncritically accepted by the self styled "centrists" there.
The latest smear against Rumsfeld? They buy it, hook, line & sinker. The mobile labs? Well, those "centrists" are sure "Bush lied". The Fitzgerald/NIE/Wilson/Bush/Cheney SNAFU? The consensus is Bush & Cheney lied & Wilson was smeared by Bush & Cheney. Oh, don't forget the illegal leaking/outing of Plame.
Etc., etc., ad nauseam.
As best as I can tell, there's one moderate conservative there who posts with any regularity. Just about every othe regular else is left of center with an emphasis on LEFT. And yes, a lot of them are far left of center, replete with BDS.
If this is what it means to be a "civil" "centrist", count me out.
