The story of how Peru ended up with these two is a long story, much more complex than you imply, which I unfortunately don't have time to summarize right now. I'll try to dig up a good summary for you over the long weekend. (Wish me luck -- only 2 1/2 days left to go!)

One other quick comment -- IMO you have greatly oversimplified your representation of Humala, who needs to come across as a demagogue to get elected but IMO will prove to be much more corporate-friendly than the scaremongers will have you believe, the same as happened with recently-elected Evo Morales in Bolivia.

That said, I don't blame you for not investing in Peru, but IMO three companies have deposits that are just too promising to pass up if you have a tolerance for risk -- Bear Creek, Peru Copper, and Candente.
