I attended college in the '70's. I saw and experienced nothing similar to what you described in your post. Regardless of when one went to school, suggesting reading material, regardless of the content of that material, should not be deemed to be sexually harassing behavior. People might disagree with the content, and that's fine. Have a debate about it. Just don't ban the material because someone is offended by it or disagrees with it.
