But I see nothing 'hypocritical' in pointing out that Bush has clearly shown NO GUTS for true, comprehensive tax reform, loophole elimination, rate lowering etc.

He has CONSISTENTLY backed away from the table whenever the subject came up... failing to move for tax reform early in his first term when he could easily have achieved it, shunting it off to a 'commission' for 'study' in his second term (really: to kill the idea for now, take it off the table, so *presumably* his backers might be able to save it for a campaign issue... but WITHOUT ever actually being required to buckle down and do the hard lifting that would be required to cut bloated spending, and slash the mindless and unproductive complexity of the tax codes....)

Although, the commission --- DESPITE being seriously hobbled by the rules they were forced to operate under --- DID come up with SEVERAL fine ideas which, *combined*, could provide a MUCH FAIRER and MORE PRODUCTIVE tax system then we suffer under now.

But Bush? Absent from the war.
