Perhaps Rove is completely focused on keeping himself out of Fitzgerald's hooks; perhaps the cumulative effect of all these is more than he can handle;....

Not so. I think that the neo cons coming into the White House in 2000 were impatient. They hastened to put into practice the elements of their memo to President Clinton in 1998. Towards that end, they misused their power of office to make a case for the war, they destroyed the credibility of all those who stood in their way and proceeded to attack Iraq without having exhausted all avenues for diplomacy, without proper military planning etc.

And today we are in a unprecedented situation in which 6 retired generals are not happy with their civilian bosses.

Our President has always told us that he makes the Generals on the ground make all the decisions and that he just facilitates their decisions. What the Generals are saying now is contrary to what Bush has been saying to us all along. Something that is becoming a common thing whether it is with the leaks, eavesdropping etc. The President tells us one thing and we later find out that he is acting diametrically opposite to what he tells us.

To me, what the President is implying that it is OK for him to mislead the American public as long as it misleads the terrorists. I don't think that it is OK with the American people. Or is that open to debate? I don't know.
