$200 oil will be a mixed blessing and ultimately a Very Bad Thing for energy cos (save, hopefully, the Canadian oil sands which operate in an energy friendly Alberta). that price will undoubtedly be met with a windfall profits tax and a huge consumer backlash (Americans, liberal and conservative, Southern Nascar Dads and New York Cappuccino Slurpers alike, are incredibly ignorant of the inability of oil cos to control the price of oil, therefore they believe this kind of bullshiat about oil cos controlling the White House). oil cos don't need anybody other than the porcine American ignoramus consumer to raise the price of hydrocarbons. war will just cloud the picture and create all kinds of political risks of de facto confiscation of private assets (theft of private oil assets by idiots like Clownifornian Barbara Boxer who bet on tech stocks and the housing bubble instead of Peak Oil and want to move the goalposts after the fact).

as an energy investor, i much prefer that Barbara Boxer and other limousine liberals be boiled slowly into $10 gas over the next decade rather than be dropped directly on hot coals thanks to a war. geopolitical events of this ilk will likely produce temporary price spikes and volatility, followed by a downside backlash. at the end of the day, what will remain is price controls and a less savory investing environment.
