Smooth Re: If Conroe does not work to reestablish the monopoly... You are the first Pro-Intel supporter posting on this board that I've seen confirming that indeed, Intel has had a monopoly. I agree with You, Intel has been an impenetrable monopoly for decades. That is what the pending AMD lawsuit is about. In the past I have seen AMD supporters on this board criticize AMD management for not advertising more. I suspect all the advertising that AMD could do was in vain and AMD knew it. Intel fine-tuned its "Incentives Program" to leave AMD the 10% or less, at the bottom end that Intel "allowed" AMD to have. AMD advertising was not going to change that. I think AMD did the prudent thing by not throwing good money after bad then, trying in vain to advertise. Management knew what the problem was. I also think AMD did the prudent thing attacking source of the problem with their lawsuit at a time AMD could demonstrate superior products and performance, yet received only moderated acceptance. Dell's perfect compliance with Intel-Only may prove to be the downfall of Intel as we all once knew it. Then again, the commodity nature of the CPU business was going to do that anyway...now that Intel's Dirty Tricks and Fine-Tuning Department is nailed against the wall. Intel grew fat and greedy on ASP's that will never come again, it is a different world now. Remember, AMD survived and engineered AMD64 and the K8 on the bottom end, Intel breed a lean and mean competitor and I don't think Intel can maintain former position in the future. The whole Conroe thing is very mysterious. It is ALL under TOTAL Intel control. I've never seen anything like that in all my life. Have you? Conroe & family is the "Hail-Mary Pass" as I see it. If it isn't what we have been lead to believe (Intel wouldn't doctor things would they?), Intel becomes another General Motors. You remember Sears and Wal-Mart don't You? Even WS won't be able to save Intel. The coming lawsuit is going to be interesting to say the least, even the little guys know Intel is a Monopoly...how can the Big guys come to any other conclusion? I'm not saying they won't, only pondering on how they could. This IMHO. Kindest Regards, CrazyMan
