And you are overestimating Iran and underestimating the United States.

I have not said we will attack Iran. I don't know if we will or not. What I've said here is that if Iran makes the mistake of acting on belief in its own rhetoric, the United States will respond and certainly has the means and capacity to do so. The only real question in that eventuality would be the attitude of the American public, and what I've said in that regard is that American public opinion is responsive to events.

Finally, if this administration, or any other, actually DID order our military to take action against Iran, for whatever reason, our military would do so. That's how our nation is constituted. Any military officers who refused would promptly be relieved. That is how our military is constituted. Any retired military generals who wanted to piss and moan about it in hopes of becoming celebrities would still remain retired military generals, i.e., just one of the typical and inevitable by-products of massive military spending.
