BALLARD BUS HITS CHICAGO

Just read the article in my local paper in Victoria. Goes as follows:

----------------------------------------
VANCOUVER(CP) - The Chicago Transit Authority took delivery Thursday of the world's first hydrogen fuel-cell transit bus to enter daily service.

The transit authority is buying three of the $1.4-million US buses, which uses a non-polluting fuel cell developed by Ballard Power Systems of Burnaby.

The buses use compressed hydrogen which the fuel cell converts into electricity for power. The only waste product is water vapor.

Ballard, which also has agreements with major automakers to develop fuel-cell cars, made the deal with Chicago to test the buses commercially to see if they're cheaper to run than diesel-powered vehicles.

The fuel-cell bus has power equivalent to diesel buses but without the heavy exhaust.

Ballard will use data from the two-year test to develop the full commercial versions of the bus, due for production by 2001.

----------------

Looks like the news is being transformed into favourable stock prices, over the past few days.

Anyone reading this thread who lives in Chicago? Would be nice to post some local articles, stories, comments from citizenry out there rather than hearing the "official" news out of the papers. I am also curious - did the story play in Chicago papers and TV - lots of hype?? Mentioned at all?? I imagine it gets into our local paper as we are just across the water from Burnaby, but who knows which papers/TV stations pick up the Ballard news.

ps. on a lighter side, can anyone picture a bus hitting a city? (BALLARD BUS HITS CHICAGO)
