HONG KONG, April 17 (Reuters) - Top Asian oil firm PetroChina Co. Ltd. <0857.HK> said on Monday its average selling price for crude oil rose nearly 47 percent year-on-year to US$55.14 per barrel in the first quarter.

PetroChina <PTR.N> -- which owns three quarters of the oil and gas reserves in the world's second-largest energy consumer -- plays a pivotal role in helping the country reduce its reliance on oil imports, which accounts for about 40 percent of its needs.
