Pretty sure you are botching the analysis by OVERLY-simplifying it and ignoring major real expenses.

1) You have the present-day-value-of-money calculation.

2) (This is the part you seem to be, deliberately or accidentally, skipping) the repayment of Principal plus compounded Interest into the future for the sovereign debt issued in present day time span to finance the war.
