I don't think many know that you can get fairly reasonable health care coverage as an individual. Corporate healthcare is a benefit. They are spending your money for you. Fortunately in my former corporate job, the company allowed you to decline coverages and gave you a cash credit. I declined, got individual coverage in the open market and pocketed the difference. It worked for the life insurance too.
